Bug Detector Information
What is a bug detector exactly? How do bug detectors work and can't I just buy one and sweep for bugs myself?
There are many different bugs and many different detectors. Many work by 'listening' for radio signals or electromagnetic radiation.
There are three major problems with buying your own bug sweeping tools.
The first is that to cover all the possible types of audio surveillance device out there you might need to spend many tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of pounds. There are cheap tools that claim to detect Wireless RF Devices and Phone Taps, but without high quality hardware and software to detect and interpret signals across a very wide frequency range, many of the readily available store-bought bug detector offerings are effectively little more than toys.

While in the past many small bugs worked on a frequency below 3 Ghz, they can now be found transmitting on a much wider frequency range.
Thirdly, training in the correct use of a bug detector is essential if your money is not to have been wasted. After spending thousands, if you do not use the bug detector correctly you may well fail to detect any bugs, whether they are actually there or not.
